To fast track solutions for India’s diverse energy challenges, a delegation of Member of Parliament (MP) from India visited the University of Chicago in October. Hosted by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago’s India team (EPIC- India) and the Climate Parliament, the visit aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange between the Indian legislators, researchers from the University of Chicago and policymakers and opinion leaders in Chicago and Washington, DC.
The delegation of MPs consisting of Riti Pathak, Rakesh Singh and Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal of Bharatiya Janata Party; Kalikesh N. Singh Deo and Dr. Prabhas Kumar Singh of Biju Janata Dal; Vincent Pala of Indian National Congress, Vandana Chavan of Nationalist Congress Party and Vivek Gupta of All India Trinamool Congress visited the United States from 28th October to 3rd November, 2017.
During this week long visit, the legislators met experts to dive into best practices related to energy, environment and climate policy challenges. The parliamentarians also attended roundtables on regulatory and policy solutions to environmental issues and met with researchers who have studied India’ energy challenge. Additionally, the legislators traveled to Washington, DC to meet specialists at the White House and the Environmental Protection Agency.
