Research Associate - AQLI

The Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) converts air pollution concentrations across the globe into their impact on life expectancy. From this, the public and policymakers alike can determine the benefits of air pollution policies in perhaps the most important measure that exists—longer lives.

The AQLI is seeking a full-time Research Associate to perform data and policy analyses of the impacts of air pollution on health, in various countries around the world.

Location: New Delhi Start Date: As soon as possible


  • Proficient in R, Stata, and Python.
  • Ability to articulate and summarize complex ideas effectively.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • Creative and entrepreneurial self-starter.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance multiple assignments.
  • Solid understanding of economics and applied econometrics.
  • Prior experience working on data collection, cleaning, and analysis.

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in economics, statistics, public health, or a related field.
  • Strong track record of outstanding academic performance.
  • Prior professional work experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interest in pursuing further graduate studies.

Program Lead

EPIC India is seeking a full-time Program Lead to execute innovative ideas related to energy and environmental policy, manage small research and field teams, and play an instrumental role in developing and expanding its pipeline of applied economics research projects

Location: Delhi or Bangalore Start Date: Summer, 2021

The ideal candidate possesses a mix of economics, analytical, interpersonal & communications skills and is passionate about working with cross-functional groups to drive large-scale impact in the energy and environment sector.

Skills and Requirements

  2. Demonstrated understanding of concepts in microeconomics, econometrics, and statistics.
  3. Solid analytical capabilities, e.g. numerical analysis
  4. Attention to detail and ability to execute patiently, and diligently
  5. ‘Get things done’ attitude: You like to execute the projects you work on, you are not afraid to get involved in operational details, and have the ability to deliver quickly and efficiently.
  6. Stakeholder management: You are able to communicate (both in writing (incl. presentations) and speaking) effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive progress on your projects.
  7. Out of the box thinking: You have the ability to identify new ways to do stuff and the willingness to implement it.
  8. Working knowledge of statistical software (STATA and/or R) preferred.


  • MPP, MBA, or master’s degree in development field related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in a role with project-based assignments, with substantial client-facing components/ experience in monitoring and evaluation projects.
  • Experience managing and supervising junior staff members.
  • Strong track record of outstanding academic/ professional performance.

Research Intern

EPIC-India is looking to have a Research Intern who is enthusiastic to work in the field of developmental economics, is a keen learner, and has some experience in field research and data analysis.

Location: UChicago Center in Delhi Start Date: Accepting applications on a rolling basis

The Intern will be engaged in design, implementation and analysis of our projects and may also be required to write and present findings of the work to external partners, and therefore should have well developed interpersonal and communication skills. The Intern may also perform other duties as assigned.

The position offers the rare opportunity to work directly with senior researchers at the University of Chicago. The position will be full-time for a period of 3-6 months.



Currently enrolled or recently graduated from Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public policy, economics, statistics, environmental science, engineering or a similar field is required


  • Knowledge and understanding of energy and environmental policy literature is required; work/research experience in the area is strongly preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with field staff and internal/ external partners required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data in a simple and straightforward way for non-technical audiences required
  • Familiar with any statistical software like R, Stata or Python would be a plus
