Program Lead

EPIC India is seeking a full-time Program Lead to execute innovative ideas related to energy and environmental policy, manage small research and field teams, and play an instrumental role in developing and expanding its pipeline of applied economics research projects

Location: Delhi or Bangalore Start Date: Summer, 2021

EPIC India researchers work hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to identify innovative ideas, pilot them on the ground, and rigorously measure outcomes.

The ideal candidate possesses a mix of economics, analytical, interpersonal & communications skills and is passionate about working with cross-functional groups to drive large-scale impact in the energy and environment sector.

Skills and Requirements

  1. A high degree of ownership and ability to drive forward workstreams, independently
  2. Demonstrated understanding of concepts in microeconomics, econometrics, and statistics.
  3. Solid analytical capabilities, e.g. numerical analysis
  4. Attention to detail and ability to execute patiently, and diligently
  5. ‘Get things done’ attitude: You like to execute the projects you work on, you are not afraid to get involved in operational details, and have the ability to deliver quickly and efficiently.
  6. Stakeholder management: You are able to communicate (both in writing (incl. presentations) and speaking) effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive progress on your projects.
  7. Out of the box thinking: You have the ability to identify new ways to do stuff and the willingness to implement it.
  8. Working knowledge of statistical software (STATA and/or R) preferred.

 Qualifications

  • MPP, MBA, or master’s degree in development field related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in a role with project-based assignments, with substantial client-facing components/ experience in monitoring and evaluation projects.
  • Experience managing and supervising junior staff members.
  • Strong track record of outstanding academic/ professional performance.

Research Associate

We are seeking a research associate based in our Bengaluru office to support a wide range of projects in the Energy and Environment Sector.

Location: Bengaluru Start Date: March 2021

Our Mission

India faces the dual challenge of rapidly improving living standards—through sustained economic growth and expanded access to reliable and affordable energy—while simultaneously reducing pollution for a cleaner and healthier environment. EPIC India researchers work hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to identify innovative ideas, pilot them on the ground, and rigorously measure outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Supports the principal investigators and Program Lead in maintaining strong relationships with participating partner organizations, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders
  2. Manages the data collection and conducts the initial analysis to evaluate program progress
  3. Regular travel to field to monitor and assess the progress in fieldwork, including supervision of the field staff during surveys and quality checks.
  4. Develops and disseminates necessary project materials and collaterals targeting a wide range of actors such as policymakers and academic researchers

The position offers the opportunity to work directly with leading practitioners in the energy and environment community, and policy researchers at the University of Chicago. The position will be starting from March 2021

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Experience with data management, data cleaning, and regression analysis is a must.
  2. Should be a team player, and have the ability to work independently.
  3. Strong time management and organizational skills.
  4. A Master’s degree in Economics, or related fields. Bachelors with two years of work experience can apply.
  5. At least one year of work experience – field research internships are valid too.
  6. Willingness to work in rural or peri-urban areas and travel extensively to study areas is essential.
  7. Fluency and excellent communication skills in English and Kannada.

Research Intern

EPIC-India is looking to have a Research Intern who is enthusiastic to work in the field of developmental economics, is a keen learner, and has some experience in field research and data analysis.

Location: UChicago Center in Delhi Start Date: Accepting applications on a rolling basis

The Intern will be engaged in design, implementation and analysis of our projects and may also be required to write and present findings of the work to external partners, and therefore should have well developed interpersonal and communication skills. The Intern may also perform other duties as assigned.

The position offers the rare opportunity to work directly with senior researchers at the University of Chicago. The position will be full-time for a period of 3-6 months.

Qualifications:

Education:

Currently enrolled or recently graduated from Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public policy, economics, statistics, environmental science, engineering or a similar field is required

Competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding of energy and environmental policy literature is required; work/research experience in the area is strongly preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with field staff and internal/ external partners required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data in a simple and straightforward way for non-technical audiences required
  • Familiar with any statistical software like R, Stata or Python would be a plus
