In a bid to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and insightful discussions, a delegation of 12 esteemed Indian legislators embarked on a transformative journey to the University of Chicago for a week-long knowledge-exchange program from 15th to 19th May 2023. This unique initiative brought together lawmakers from various political parties, representing diverse regions of India, to explore innovative policy solutions, governance strategies, and global best practices. This edition was attended by multiparty MPs including Dr. CM Ramesh (Bharatiya Janata Party), Gaurav Gogoi (Indian National Congress); Jayadev Galla (Telugu Desam Party); Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party);  Mahua Moitra (Trinamool Congress); Dr. Mahua Maji (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha); Pradyut Bordoloi (Indian National Congress); Rahul Kaswan (Bharatiya Janata Party); Ram Mohan Naidu (Telugu Desam Party); Dr. Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena); T Sumathy (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam; and Tusharkanti Behera (Minister of State (Independent Charge), E & IT, Sports & Youth Services at Government of Odisha).

The University of Chicago, renowned for its academic excellence and intellectual prowess, provided a vibrant ecosystem for Indian legislators to engage in insightful discussions with eminent faculty members, researchers, and experts from diverse fields. The program encompassed a wide array of topics. The Legislators Program 2023 successfully bridged the gap between academia and policymaking, facilitating a dynamic exchange of knowledge and ideas between scholars and legislators. It highlighted the significance of evidence-based policy formulation, wherein legislators were encouraged to draw upon empirical research and data to strengthen their proposals.
