Air pollution levels in the national capital have been a worrying concern for years. Delhi remained one of the most polluted cities in the world, leading to critical health issues for a large number of its population. According to the Air Quality Life Index by the University of Chicago, air pollution levels in Delhi can shorten the lives of its residents by almost 10 years. However, in a great relief and a positive sign, the first six months of this year recorded the cleanest air in the city in the past six months.
In the first six months of the current year, Delhi experienced a remarkable increase in the number of days categorized as ‘Good to Moderate’ on the Air Quality Index (AQI). During the eight years, from 2016 to 2023, for the period January to June, Delhi registered its best air quality this year, barring the time of the COVID-19 Lockdown.
