EPIC Seminar Series: The Politics of Meteorological Measurement, Monsoon and Climate Change in India

Monsoons in India have a bearing on everything from food production to energy usage to health and some would argue political stability. As an entrepreneur, Jatin Singh has made a career around it. With climate change increasingly affecting weather patterns, the prediction of monsoons has become more important and more challenging. Every number measured or forecasted tends to get contested. In this talk, Jatin will discuss what these numbers reveal and conceal.

Jatin Singh is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Skymet Weather Services Pvt. Ltd. (erstwhile Skymet), pioneers in private sector initiative in weather forecasting and information services in India. The company has ushered in weather solutions for sectors as varied as energy, shipping, agriculture, and risk in India following its humble beginnings in 2003 serving the media industry. Jatin is an alumnus of Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, and has a Master Degree in International Relations and International Communication from Boston University. He has worked with Associated Press, Aajtak and Headlines Today as a producer.
