The Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago’s team in India – EPIC India, is excited to announce the appointment of Parthaa Bosu as its new Executive Director. This significant development comes at a pivotal time as EPIC India embarks on an ambitious journey of expanding its research projects and establishing strategic partnerships with government agencies and industry stakeholders.

“Next year, we complete a decade of work to diagnose India’s most pressing energy and environment needs and develop actionable solutions. At this point, we are extremely delighted to announce that Parthaa Bosu has agreed to lead all our India initiatives. With a remarkable two-decade experience in the emissions and clean air sector, he is the perfect person to lead EPIC India into a new era of growth and impact”, expressed Prof Michael Greenstone, the Milton Friedman Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and Director of EPIC, sharing his confidence in Bosu’s ability to guide EPIC India to new heights.

Bosu’s professional journey has been marked by contributions to prestigious organizations such as the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), where he played a pivotal role in developing the computerized emission check system (PUC) that remains integral to vehicle emissions management in India. His tenure with the United Nations (UN) Partnership, Clean Air Asia, reflects his dedication to addressing air quality challenges. He progressively assumed roles of increasing responsibility, serving as the India Representative and subsequently as the India Director and South Asia Liaison.

Prior to stepping into the Executive Director role at EPIC India, he was the lead India advisor to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). In addition, he is directing the USAID-funded Clean Air Catalyst, a multi-stakeholder consortium, working towards clean air in Indore and developing a protocol on hyperlocal hotspots in India.

Parthaa has an educational background in Sustainable Development and English language and has several certifications to his credit including from the University of Michigan on Mobility Mapping & Implementation.

Sharing his anticipation for this new venture with EPIC India, Parthaa said, “I am excited to be working alongside a remarkable and dynamic team. Our shared belief is that this is a beautiful opportunity to collaborate with India and elevate the field of research to new heights. Our innovative research in the areas of economy and energy is aimed at contributing to India’s ambitious goal of achieving a trillion-dollar economy.” Parthaa’s official role as Executive Director commenced on September 1, 2023, marking the beginning of a promising chapter in EPIC India’s journey to drive evidence-backed research into policy action
