 Introduction:

Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India) works to address India’s most pressing energy, environmental, and urban challenges through rigorous, evidence-based research and partnerships with government and industry.

Program Description:

The project intern will support the Hyderabad urban waste project by assisting with on-ground field implementation activities. The role focuses on coordinating with urban local bodies and field teams, tracking implementation progress, supporting stakeholder engagement, and ensuring accurate documentation of field-level processes and learnings. The intern will work closely with the project team to support the practical, on-the-ground delivery of the project in Hyderabad.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Support day-to-day coordination with government partners, site teams, and other stakeholders involved in field implementation.
• Assist in planning and conducting field visits, site assessments, and stakeholder consultations related to solid waste management activities.
• Track and document field-level implementation progress, including data collection and record-keeping.
• Support the organisation of stakeholder meetings, workshops, and consultations, including logistics and follow-up.
• Assist in preparing field notes, updates, and briefs to inform the project team and support internal reporting.

Deliverables:

• Work with the team to draft regular field visit reports and provide updates on implementation progress.
• Organise records of stakeholder engagement and field-level data collected.
• Work with EPIC-India’s Waste and Emissions team and support with materials and logistics for stakeholder meetings and workshops.
• Support the collection of field-level inputs and data to support project reports and knowledge notes.
• Timely flagging of on-ground implementation issues and updates to the project team.

Expected Timeframes:

This role is for a minimum duration of 8 weeks, commencing on 21.09.2026, with an expected commitment of 20 hours per week.

Intellectual Property Rights:

All items produced from this project will be owned by the University of Chicago Trust.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, social sciences, urban planning, public policy, environmental studies, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in, the solid waste management sector, urban governance, or municipal service delivery.
• Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple field-level tasks and stakeholders.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear field notes and updates.
• Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and adapt to field-based work environments.
• Prior experience working around city waste management will be highly preferred.
• Fluency in Telugu is compulsory; fluency in Hindi and English will be an added advantage.
