Senior Data Associate

EPIC India is seeking a full-time Senior Data Associate to work directly with leading practitioners in the energy and environment community, policy researchers affiliated with EPIC India and senior government officials involved in energy and environmental issues across India

EPIC India researchers work hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to identify innovative ideas, pilot them on the ground, and rigorously measure outcomes.

Position Description

EPIC India is seeking a full-time Senior Data Associate to work directly with leading practitioners in the energy and environment community, policy researchers affiliated with EPIC India and senior government officials involved in energy and environmental issues across India

The ideal candidate possesses a mix of analytical, interpersonal & communications skills and is passionate about working with cross-functional groups to drive large-scale impact in energy and environment sector.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, government stakeholders, and various departments within GNCTD to identify existing datasets, catalogue them, and contribute to the development of a repository/hub for data analysis.
  • Design and develop a database management system tailored specifically for the Transport Department, GNCTD, ensuring efficient reception, storage, and management of data from multiple departments and applications, with a focus on seamless integration and accessibility.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyze large and complex datasets, extract meaningful insights, and identify relevant trends and patterns.
  • Present analyzed results and insights through clear and appealing data visualizations, reports, and dashboards to facilitate understanding and decision-making by stakeholders.
  • Oversight of data collection, data cleaning, and validation, to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Implement quality control measures to improve data quality and resolve any discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Ensure compliance with data user agreements and guidelines, safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive data throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Oversight of the implementation of projects in association with our partner organisations
  • Engage with relevant officials on different aspects of the project, and facilitate data access and management between the involved parties
  • Any other related tasks on an as-needed basis, such as literature survey and support in the preparation of meetings and presentations, as assigned by EPIC India’s senior leadership, or Research Manager.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or Applied Economics. If the candidate has a bachelor’s degree in the related field, at least 4 years of work experience as a data analyst is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a data analyst.

Competencies

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferable), R, and STATA for data analysis and visualization.
  • Strong understanding of databases, SQL, and data manipulation techniques.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, and predictive modelling techniques.
  • Experience with developing data decisions support dashboards/systems.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and big data technologies (e.g., AWS, Hadoop) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
  • Demonstrated interest in energy and environment policy, with strong demonstrated interest in the development sector
  • Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
  • Strong communication, and presentation skills
  • Fluent in both English and Hindi

Working Conditions

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in India.
